McKinley County, New Mexico was established in 1899 and formed part of the 2nd Judicial District of the United States Territorial Courts in New Mexico. In subsequent years McKinley County was transferred from the 2nd to the 1st Judicial District (1921) and from the 1st to the 11th Judicial District (1961). Edward Patrick Davies was born in Iowa in January 1880. He attended the schools of Iowa City and Drake University. He was admitted to the Iowa bar when he was twenty-one years old. In October 1906 he moved to Willard, New Mexico where he opened a law office and ran an insurance business. In 1909 he moved to Santa Fe and continued his law practice.
